Striped and spotted cucumber beetles are the most important insect pests on muskmelon in Indiana. The cucumber beetles are capable of transmitting bacterial wilt in cucurbits. When the symptoms of bacterial wilt appear on plants, it is already too late to manage the disease. Nothing can be done to save a plant that is infected by the disease. The only way to avoid the bacterial wilt disease is to limit cucumber beetle feeding on the plants. Research at Purdue University has found several essential factors that are important in the management of cucumber beetles on muskmelon.
